Description	:	Wesley George Niederman passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at St. Alexius Medical Center with family by his side. He was born in Wheeler Township, rural Grant County, ND on September 1, 1918 to Joseph and Anna (Hartinger) Niederman. Wesley was educated at the Park School, Morristown School, and Elgin High School. From 1936-1937 he and his brother Ed, worked the fruit harvest in California. He was born in Wheeler Township, rural Grant County, ND on September 1, 1918 to Joseph and Anna (Hartinger) Niederman. Wesley was educated at the Park School, Morristown School, and Elgin High School. From 1936-1937 he and his brother Ed, worked the fruit harvest in California. He returned to North Dakota and graduated from Elgin High School in 1938. Wes farmed the Niederman homestead located 12 miles north of Morristown, SD. He was united in marriage to Alice Klein (Schatz) Roth on May 17, 1956. To this union Alice brought two daughters, Janice and Shirla, whom Wes accepted as his own. Born to Wesley and Alice were a daughter Joleen and son Wesley. He retired from farming and ranching in 1980, and in the fall of 1986, he and Alice moved to Elgin. Wesley was active in the community and served on many boards. As an advocate for farmers, he was a member of the Farmers Union Board. He was also on the R. C. D county committee and served on the Regional Soil Conservation board as a supervisor. In 1979, he and Alice received the Grant County Farm of the Year award. In addition, he was instrumental in establishing the Meals-On-Wheels program in Elgin. Wesley loved attending school functions and sporting events for his grandchildren. He seldom missed the 9:00 a.m. coffee hour at Our Place Café. He enjoyed being able to get out and socialize with family and friends. His retirement hobbies included gardening, puzzles, reading, playing cards, cross-stich, wood working, playing pool, dominoes, traveling and spending time with his family. After Alice entered Jacobson Memorial Care Center, in 2004, he seldom missed a chance to visit with her and play dominoes. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a doting grandfather.¬ He is survived by his wife, Alice, Elgin, ND; children: Janice Schauls, Long Lake, MN; Shirla Humiston, Seguin, TX; Joleen (Ron) Carlson, Mound MN; and Wesley (Leslie) Niederman, Morristown, SD. Grandchildren: Monteen (Brett) Collins, Chaska, MN; Kelly Schauls, Minnetonka, MN; Casey Alt, Taipei City, Taiwan; Aaron Alt, Austin, TX; Anna Carlson, Chanhassen, MN; Myra (Grant) Borchert, Carson, ND; Matt Niederman, Morristown, SD; and Keri Niederman, Alliance, NE. Great grandchildren are Taryn and Rylee Collins and Jimmy Ziebol. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edward and Thomas; sisters Ella Brown and Matilda Eisenberg. The Memorial Service for Wesley will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elgin. Pastor Marvin Winstryg will officiate with inurnment in the Congregational Cemetery at New Leipzig. A Prayer Service for family and friends will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday evening at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Serving as honorary bearers are his grandchildren. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 1:00 to 6:00pm at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin. A memorial has been established.
