For some reason, the name of Wesley's sister Laura McShane was left out of both of Mary's obituaries as a living surviving daughter. Wesley was the son of Allen and Mary (Mefford) Howard. He was first married to Velma Atchison in 1912, in Mahaska County, Iowa (date of license March 23, 1912.) They had one known daughter, Neva. He was married to Iva Benge on October 12, 1918, in Albia, Iowa. They had one known son, Grover. Wesley is linked to his third wife Mary who is buried under her first husband's last name of Martz. Mary's obituary was published in the name of Mary E. Howard. --------------- Obituary From "Ottumwa Courier," November 3, 1954: WESLEY G. (Harry) HOWARD. Wesley G. (Harry) Howard, 68, of 420 Carlisle street, a retired employ of John Morrell & Co., died at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at Broadlawns General hospital in Des Moines. He had worked for the Morrell firm for 30 years prior to his retirement three years ago. He had been staying with his granddaughter Mrs. Gene Skinner, in Des Moines the past three weeks. Surviving are his wife, Mary E. Howard, Ottumwa; a daughter, Mrs. Neva Shafer, Oskaloosa; a son, Grover H. Howard, Des Moines; nine grandchildren and a step-grandchild, and two sisters, Laura and Nora. The casket will be returned to the Johnson funeral chapel here Friday morning and services will be in the chapel at 3 p.m. Friday in charge of the Rev. LaVerne Morris of Davis Street Christian church. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. Pallbearers will be Everett Summers, Russell Jackson, Harold Hann, Sherman Crouse, Lawrence Phillips and Earl King.
