Description	:	Wesley Howard McFarling was born Huron, South Dakota on August 18, 1921 the only child of Oscar and Ida McFarling. He grew up in Huron and attended Huron School. He graduated from high school in 1939. The teachers said he was a good student. He entered the navy in September 20, 1939 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was sent over seas to the Pacific coast. He served as chief torpedo man's mate on the destroyer in the Pacific. Navy Chief Mate Wesley McFarling was lost overboard on July 8, 1944. His body was never recovered; the Judge Advocate General of the Navy reviewed... He graduated from high school in 1939. The teachers said he was a good student. He entered the navy in September 20, 1939 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was sent over seas to the Pacific coast. He served as chief torpedo man's mate on the destroyer in the Pacific. Navy Chief Mate Wesley McFarling was lost overboard on July 8, 1944. His body was never recovered; the Judge Advocate General of the Navy reviewed the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Wesley and held that he died July 8, 1944. The survivors of the time of Wesley's death were his parents Oscar and Ida McFarling. His name is inscribed on a granite obelisk in front of the Huron Public Library, and he is listed on the Tablets of the Missing at Honolulu Memorial in Honolulu, Hawaii.
