Funeral services will be Friday, May 9, 2014, at 2 p.m., at Bluffs Trinity Lutheran, in rural Fremont, with Reverend Sean Tyler officiating. Wesley Nels Petersen was born March 18, 1923, during a blizzard, on a farm northwest of Fremont, to Morris and Ruth (Berry) Petersen. He attended Larson School District #76 in Dodge County through the eighth grade. He then attended High School in Hooper and Nickerson. He farmed with his brother, Gerald, south of Nickerson and on February 20, 1945, entered the United States Army. He was stationed in the Phillipine Islands and returned home October 25, 1946. On November 2, 1946, he married Alyce Mae Reed at Bluffs Trinity Lutheran Church near Fremont. They farmed south of Nickerson until moving north of Rogers in 1959. They moved to Schuyler in 1983 and he retired in 1986. Buster loved spending time with family and he and Alyce enjoyed traveling in their camper. He was a member of the church, Lifetime member of the VFW and Eagle's Club in Schuyler. Wes is survived by his wife, Alyce, of Columbus; two sons, Keith (Donna) Petersen, of Schuyler, and Wayne (Pam) Petersen, of Plattsmouth; four grandchildren, Cory (Natalie) Petersen, and Kyle (Cindy) Petersen, all of Schuyler, Tim (Angie) Petersen, of Gretna, and Laura (Jason) Thiesen, of Cedar Bluffs; seven great-grandchildren, Layne, Kinzie, Beau, Drake, Colt and Cash Petersen, and Everly Thiesen; a brother, Gerald, of Fremont; a niece; and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roland; sister, Delores McDuffee; and a great-grandson, Brody Petersen. Kracl Funeral Chapel, in Schuyler, is in charge of these arrangements.
