He was born January 27, 1949 in Crow Agency the son of Wesley and Charlotte (One Goose) Falls Down, Sr. Wesley was affectionately known as Sonny. Sonny grew up in the Wyola area and attended elementary school in Wyola. He graduated from Lodge Grass High School in 1967. Wesley was a high school athlete participating in football, basketball and track. He was a member of the infamous 1965 Lodge Grass Indian Basketball team which was the #1 team in the state and took 3rd place in the state. He was selected to the All Conference Class football roster as a quarterback. He participated in track and qualified all four years for the state track meet as a javelin thrower. He enrolled at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado on a football scholarship but received a shoulder injury that ended his football career. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1969. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was given the Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharge in 1973. He married his high school sweetheart, Melissa Jefferson in 1972 and the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 25, 2022. In 1973, he enrolled in the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute and graduated with a degree in Business Management. Upon his return from SIPI, he accepted the position as Finance Director of the Crow Headstart, IHS and Crow Tribal programs. He retired in 1990 after 25 years of service. Sonny and Melissa lived most of their married life in Lodge Grass where they raised their children. The couple were co-pastors of the Lodge Grass Church for 20 years. Sonny was a taskmaster and held high expectations for not only himself but all those around him including his children and employees. This exceptional trait served him well in his duties with Headstart and organizing church activities including revivals. His focus was on implementing the Ministry of Help. His main focus was organizing the annual Crow Camp Meeting and he made sure every aspect was run efficiently and on time. He always honored the wishes of the pastor of the church and was there to offer any request for help. Sonny is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Charlotte Falls Down; his brothers Adrian and Jeffery Medicine Horse, Barney Birdinground and Wayne Williams, Adlai and Dean, Frank " Potatoes" and Blainy, Ronald, Robert and Clayton Falls Down, Randy and Blaine Real Bird; his sisters Mary Cummins, Vicki Falls Down, Candee Medicine Horse, Magdalene Moccasin, Patricia Williams, Anita Bull Chief, TeAtta Not Afraid and Karna Falls Down; his uncles Dan Old Elk, John, Warren and Melvin Pretty on Top, Blaine, Frank, Bobbie and Raymond Falls Down, Joseph, Gerald and Grant Bulltail; aunts Jewel Williams, Belva Tushka, Violet Birdinground, Ramona Falls Down and Betty Caufield; and his fellow Pastor Gary Bird. He is survived by his wife, Melissa; his sons Elisha Falls Down and Ben Bird; his daughters Mary Leda Good Luck, Kathleen Carpenter, Missy Jefferson, Tiara Carpenter; granddaughters Shekinah Glory and Tasha Carpenter; brothers Myron (Victoria) Falls Down, Coolidge (Michelle) Jefferson III, Craig Old Crow, Scott (Lauren) Medicine Horse, Duwayne (Linda) Birdinground, Darin and Greg Williams, Jimmy Tushka, Larry, Dexter (Rosann), William (Donna) Falls Down, Greg (Dorcella) Half, Edward (Francine) Real Bird, Elmer and Marlin Camel Yarlott; his sisters Myrna Medicine Horse, Twyla (Wesley Stewart) Birdinground, Pansy (Sonny) Yellowmule, Nikki (George) Riddle, Lynn Tushka, Kaylene (Orland) Little Light, Jewel Tushka, Melva (Ray) Iron, Marlene (George) Steinmetz, Leda Falls Down, Shirleen Glenn; adopted children Melvette Three Irons, Laciana Nomee, Keyonna Hogan, AJ Espinoza, Melanie McKay, Royannn Enick, Troy and Tracy Garcia, Frances Ike, Liam and Ruth Joyce, Danny and Noreen Beaver, Steve Whiteaker, Eric Bates, Queenie Wadhams, Joe Tom, Barbara Ford, Tanya Stewart and Daphne Bends; his uncles Larry, Johnny Joe and Walter Eugene Old Elk; his aunt Gwen Plain Bull. His extended family includes the Williamson, Pretty on Top, One Goose, Medicine Horse, Roundface, Old Elk, Brien, Eastman, Hill, Wilkinson, Hugs, Old Crow, Tushka, Rides the Horse, Plainfeather, Dust, Bear Ground, Big Day, Bulltail, Flatlip, Takes Gun, Turns Plenty, Old Horn and Yellowtail. He equally loved all of his nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Our family is large, please forgive us if we have not mentioned you in our grief. Funeral services will be Monday, Mar. 7, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Crow Revival Center. Burial with Military Honors will be held at the Lodge Grass Cemetery.
