Read More	Lifelong Pea Green Resident/Farmer June 12, 1908 -- Aug. 13, 2001 PEA GREEN -- Lifelong Pea Green resident, Wilber Dickerson, age 93, a retired farmer, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital at Delta. Wilber Dickerson, the son of Peter Dickerson and Lydia (Lane) Dickerson, was born on June 12, 1908, in Grand Junction, Colo. Wilber's parents died of influenza when he was young and he was raised by the Charles Ray family. All his brothers and sisters were split up to live with and be raised by other families in the area. Wilber spent his childhood years in Pea Green, graduated from Delta High School with the class of 1927, and continued to pursue his education at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. On April 18, 1932, Wilber was joined in marriage at Delta, Colo., with the love of his life, Nora McClanhan, for a lifetime partnership. Wilber and Nora's union was blessed with one son, and they had the joy and privilege of sharing nearly 64 wonderful years of marriage before Nora's death on Feb. 20, 1996, at Olathe. He was a member of the Delta United Methodist Church, Montrose Elks Lodge No. 1053, and was one of the first 4-H members in Montrose County. The pride and joy of Wilber's life was family time, farming, fishing, dancing, picnics, and playing cards. He was noted to have never missed an athletic event of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren -- especially horse events. Wilber was absolutely devoted to his wife Nora, who he lovingly took care of until the time of her death. Surviving family members who had the honor of sharing Wilber's life include his son, Gary Dickerson and wife Peggy, of Olathe. Wilber was the very proud grandfather of three special grandchildren: Richard Dickerson and wife Florence; Robert Dickerson and wife Lee Ann, all of Olathe; Rebecca and husband Jerry Allen, of Pea Green; and seven great-grandchildren: Jacob, Brian, and Stephanie Dickerson; Heather Dickerson; Angel Sharpe; and Amber and Christi Allen. Other family survivors include one brother, Ralph Ray; and four sisters: Fern Taylor, Ellen Calhoun, Marie Wilson, and Reva Braswell. Along with both of his parents and his wife, Nora, Wilber was also preceded in death by three brothers: Howard, Clarence, and Sherwood Dickerson; and two sisters: Juliette and Geraldine Dickerson. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Montrose Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services in loving remembrance and to honor Wilber's life will be officiated by Minister Pat Malone on Thursday, Aug. 16, at 2 p.m. at the Montrose Valley Funeral Home Chapel.
