Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #162 and VFW Post #736 of Albion, NE. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Levander Funeral Home of Albion. Wilber John Buckendahl, son of Chris and Linda (Schulz) Buckendahl, was born September 20, 1934 at Pierce, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pierce. He attended Pierce Lutheran Schools and graduated from Pierce High School in 1953. Bud entered the United States Army in 1956, serving until he was honorably discharged in 1958. On November 29, 1953, Bud was united in marriage to Barbara Rasley at the United Methodist Church in Norfolk, NE. They first made their home in Norfolk where Bud worked in sales with 7-up Bottling Company and Gerber Baby Food. In 1970, they moved to Albion where Bud purchased the Albion Thrifty-Way Grocery Store, which they owned and operated for 24 years. He retired in 1994 when he sold the business. Bud was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Albion and served on the Church Council. He was a member and past president of the Albion Country Club, member of the Albion Chamber of Commerce, and the American Quarter Horse Association. Surviving Bud is his wife Barb of Albion; Son Steve (Ann) of Benton, KS; Daughter Keri Brugger (Norm) of Albion; 5 grandchildren: Laura (Josh) Gardner of St. Louis, MO; Aliza Brugger of Lincoln; Joseph and Matthew Brugger of Albion; Claire Buckendahl of Benton, KS; one Brother Elray (Imogene) Buckendahl of Overland Park, KS, along with other relatives and friends. Preceding Bud in death were his parents, one brother Philbon, one sister DeVyla and grand daughter Elizabeth Irene Brugger.
