PHELPS PASSED AWAY ON SUNDAY, MARCH 29" "Wilber Wenthworth Phelps was born October 28, 1876 in Merrick county and passed away at his home in Central City March 29, 1943. He had undergone two operations during the winter and had been ill for five months. He was the son of William and Laura Phelps. In 1899 he was married to Florence Brannan. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Gresham and a member of the Modern Woodmen Lodge. For the past twenty-five years he has been in the lumber business at Gresham. Mr. Phelps is survived by his wife Florence, one son Francis W. of Lincoln, two daughters, Mrs. Rex Shubert of Fairfield, Nebr. and Helen of Lincoln, two grandchildren, and two brothers Gene and Ray of Central City and one sister, Mrs. Will Campbell of Hordville. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 31 at 2:30 from the Benson Funeral Home with Rev. Oliver Proett of Gresham and Rev. Merle G. Allen of Central City officiating. Comforting hymns were sung by the male quartet of Gresham. Pallbearers were Owen Ayres, Lee Coolidge, Dr. J. W. Hutchison, Dr. Fred Fouts, Evan Crites and Edgar Dailey.
