Laudner, 73, died Wednesday (Oct. 13, 2004) at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa. He resided at 380 S. Yorktown PIke, Unit 35, Mason City. A memorial service celebrating Dugan's life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Inurnment of his cremated remains will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A family celebration open to all will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Parish Center in Rockwell. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Sacred Heart Church. Dugan was born the only child of Amos Conrad and Alberta "Gruis" Laudner on a farm south of Sheffield on July 29, 1931. He attended country school in Rockford and Swaledale, graduating from Swaledale High School in 1948. Dugan was united in marriage to Alma Petersen at the chapel of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City on Sept. 17, 1948. To this union was born three sons. He began his life-long career as a grocer when he was 19, purchasing his first grocery store in North Washington, Iowa. In 1957, he purchased a larger store in Rockwell. After a complete fire loss on July 4, 1974, he and his sons, Rick and Kelly, built the present building. In 1994, Dugan retired and his sons continue the ownership. In September 2000, his grandson, Tony, joined the business. Dugan was very proud of the three generations that have owned and operated Dugan's Supermarket, LTD. Dugan was committed to his community and civic duties in Rockwell and the surrounding communities. He was a member of the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Rockwell Telephone Co., Rockwell City Council, the Rockwell Century Board, and served more than 30 yeas on the volunteer fire department. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed some time off hunting, fishing, playing cards, and especially watching his children and grandchildren playing sports. Dugan is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alma, of Mason City; his three sons, Patrick Jon and his wife, Gretchen) of Holland, Mich.; Rick Ray and his wife, Audrey; and Kelly Ryan and his wife, Deb, all of Rockwell; seven grandchildren, Kelli Jo and her husband, Jason Lambrix, of Canton, Mich.; Trent Allen Laudner, of Columbus, Ohio; David Conrad (the fourth generation of Conrads) Laudner and first year law student at the University of Iowa, of Rockwell; Sarah Kay Laudner, a second year student at Buena Vista in Storm Lake and also of Rockwell; Anthony Ryan and his wife, Renee Laudner, of Rockwell; Travis Jon Laudner, of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Trisha Ann and her husband, Josh Riley, of Surprise, Ariz.; two great-grandchildren, Zachary Ryan (third generation of Ryans) and Kylie Elisabeth Laudner, both of Rockwell; his stepfather, John Van Laere and his significant other, Delores Muller, of Rockford; his half-sister, Joann and her husband, Wendell Mohring, of Wauchula, Fla.; and half brother, Jackie and his wife, Sue Van Laere, of Rockford. Dugan was preceded in death by his parents.
