Description	:	Wilbert "Dick" Butters, 80, of Ackley, died early Saturday morning, November 12, 2011 at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown with full military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Harry C. Harter Post #839. Born on January 14, 1931, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Wilbert R. "Bob" and Viola (Thorpe) Butters. He graduated from the Marshalltown High School in 1949. Read More	Wilbert "Dick" Butters, 80, of Ackley, died early Saturday morning, November 12, 2011 at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown with full military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Harry C. Harter Post #839. Born on January 14, 1931, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Wilbert R. "Bob" and Viola (Thorpe) Butters. He graduated from the Marshalltown High School in 1949. He married Janet Rae Wintrowd on March 24, 1951 and shortly after they were married, Dick enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Korea for one year. After coming home from Korea, he entered seminary at the Baptist Seminary in Chicago, but at that time felt God was leading him in a different direction. He then went to Westmar College and graduated with a BA in Social Studies. His first and only teaching job was in Steamboat Rock. He also served as coach and principal. After retiring from teaching, Dick picked up the game of golf. He enjoyed playing golf in Wellsburg with his buddies and played until his health became an issue. He loved being around his family and friends right up until the end. Surviving are his wife Janet Wintrowd Butters, his son John and Cindy (Geerdes) Butters, his daughter Cheryl and Lee Oelmann, grandchildren: Justin Oelmann, Jesse Oelmann, Danielle Oelmann, Nicole Oelmann, Jessica Butters, Alison Butters and Thomas Butters as well as many friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, their infant son Richard Kenneth Butters on July 24, 1955, sister Barbara Butters Brooks and brother-in-law Robert "Bob" Brooks.
