Virgil Tiedt was born August 22, 1930 in Readlyn, IA, the son of Edwin Louis and Marie Louise (Richmann) Tiedt. He received his education in Readlyn. Virgil Tiedt was born August 22, 1930 in Readlyn, IA, the son of Edwin Louis and Marie Louise (Richmann) Tiedt. He received his education in Readlyn. On August 6, 1952, he was inducted into the United States Army, serving during the Korean War and he received a ‘sharpshooter’ award. He was honorably discharged on July 20, 1954. On October 28, 1955, Wilbert was united in marriage Betty Jo Anna Hogshead Johnson. The couple lived in Waterloo and Evansdale before moving to Tripoli. Wilbert worked for John Deere for 29 years in the maintenance and carpentry division. After Betty passed away, he traveled around the country with the “Laborers For Christ”, building Lutheran Churches. He met his second wife, Charlotte Kessner Mirly and the couple were married on September 14, 1991. Wilbert and Charlotte made their home in Cape Girardeau, MO until Charlotte passed away. Following her death, Wilbert moved to New Hampton to be near family. In his spare time, Wilbert was an avid woodworker and craftsman. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Hampton and the American Legion. Survivors include his children, Debra Dee (Gene) Curtis of Sumner, IA, Jeffrey Alan (Amy) Tiedt of Clear Lake, IA, Vionne Marie (Gary) Eichenberger of Ionia, IA, Vernon James (Wanda) Tiedt of Dunkerton, IA. Also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Berdine Chandler of Casey, IA, Edna Hoffman of Janesville, IA. He was preceded in death by his two wives, two sons, Jerry Dean Tiedt and Donald Lee Tiedt. Funeral services were held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, New Hampton with Pastor Matthew Brooks presiding. Interment was in St. John Cemetery, rural Frederika with grandchildren, Wendy Garcia, Becky Schrage, JoyLynn Shatek, Aaron Eichenberger and Nathan Eichenberger serving as pallbearers.
