Description	:	*Wilburn Marion Billings Son of Jasper Billings, Jr. and Elizabeth Spurling Wilburn married 1 Catherine Wolfe on 6/5/1849. In 1850 they lived in Ashe Co near his parents. He "ran into financial difficulties" and started selling his possessions and borrowing money. This could be why he left NC and moved to NE in the early 1870s. On 9/22/1857, "Wilborn Billings" was declared "firmly bound" to Levi Willey in the amount of $250, to be paid with interest before 3/1/1859. If it was not paid, then he would grant the following property to Levi Willey: his 8 head of horses, 1 yoke of work steers, crop of corn, buckwheat and oats, 1 wagon, 1 cow and 3 calves, 9 head of hogs, 3 cast wheels, farming tools, and household and kitchen furniture. This is according to Ashe Co records (DB T, p231). On 12/12/1864, he sold 125 acres for $750 (Alleghany DB A, p320). After the Civil War, he moved to Grundy Co, IA, and married Elizabeth Moxley, a two-time widow who was also from Alleghany Co. On 8/15/1878, he and his wife "Betsy" of Gage Co, NE, sold 176 acres on Bledsoe Creek in Alleghany Co for $100 (Alleghany DB F/6, p456-7).67 [(1860 Alleg, p71, #580/458)212] [b3,212, d3] NOTES Sister Polly first married Eli Cox on 5/2/1853. They moved to Washington, IN, after the Civil War, but Eli died in 1868 leaving her with three small children. "Polly moved in a covered wagon back to NC" and married Kirby Higgins on 10/11/1873. Kirby died seven years later and she moved to Filly, NE, to be with her brother Wilburn. In 1904, she moved to Agra, KS, to be with her children. She was buried in Fairview Cem in KS Family tradition says he is buried here with wife. Maybe no marker.
