Wilbur Arthur Crandon was the son of Arthur Bethel and Nettie Shayer Crandon. He was a 1939 graduate of Gilman High School and attended Iowa State University. Following his education in 1941, he began farming in the Gilman area. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II and served on the USS Golden City in the Pacific Theatre. He was married to Bernice V Medhus on July 11, 1942 in Gilman, Iowa. They were the parents of Virginia and Arthur. They farmed in the Gilman area. Wilbur enjoyed farming, fishing, traveling, and woodworking. He was a devoted father and enjoyed all his grandchildren. He was an active member of the Cyrus Lodge #338 AF and AM, Signet Chapter #38 RAM, King Solomon Council #20 R and SM, St. Aldemar Commandery #30 KT, and Past Grand Representative to Kentucky in Iowa. He was a life long member of the Gilman Community United Church of Christ where he served on various committees and in several offices. He was also active in several Marshall County and community committees.
