Description	:	Wilbur was born on his fathers farm ten miles east of Paoli, IN., on State Hwy 150. When he was three his father traded the farm for a house in Campbellsburg, IN. so the children would have the advantage of schools and the church. When his father died in 1923, he and his mother and sisters Faith and Mary Katherine moved to Lyons, IN. where they opened a bakery with his half brother Harley Barksdale. Read More	Wilbur was born on his fathers farm ten miles east of Paoli, IN., on State Hwy 150. When he was three his father traded the farm for a house in Campbellsburg, IN. so the children would have the advantage of schools and the church. When his father died in 1923, he and his mother and sisters Faith and Mary Katherine moved to Lyons, IN. where they opened a bakery with his half brother Harley Barksdale. In 1930 Wilbur was the first Captain of the first track team of Paoli High School. In 1936 Wilbur and banker Raymond Stout began a partnership and opened Barksdales Haberdashers on the south side of the square in Paoli. They enlarged the store twice from 1936-1946, and expanded into a department store. In 1955 Mr. Stout died and Wilbur purchased the business and operated it himself. On March 14, 1937 Wilbur married Lena O. Cassidy, daughter of William Shelby Cassidy and Eta DePew. Wilbur and Lena were active members of the Methodist Church and he was a member of the Paoli Masonic Lodge. Wilbur was also a member of the Board of Trustees of Paoli, and Chairman of the American Red Cross. Lena was a member of the Phi Beta Psi Sorority and Orange County Hospital Auxiliary. She was a graduate of Salem High School, Salem, IN., and the Spencerian Commercial School of Louisville, KY.
