Vander Hamm, 81, of rural Ireton, died Saturday, May 20, 2006, at Hawarden (Iowa) Community Hospital.Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Ireton, with the Rev. David Daumer officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Monday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Porter Funeral Home in Ireton. Wilbur W. Vander Hamm was born Feb. 24, 1925, on the Vander Hamm family farm southeast of Ireton, the son of Robert and Edna (Kading) Vander Hamm. He was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church near Ireton. He was confirmed on July 16, 1939, and remained a lifelong member of St. John's. Wilbur lived on and worked the Vander Hamm family farm his whole life. He also drove truck and enjoyed being a school bus driver. He served 50 years on the election voting board and had served on the finance board and agriculture committee of his church. Wilbur enjoyed working in his garden. Survivors include his brother and sisters, Marian Moeller of Hawarden, Iowa, Myrna Vander Hamm of Ireton, Wallace Vander Hamm and his wife, LaVonne of Ireton and Joan Osterkamp and her husband, Edward of Alcester, S.D.; and 15 nephews and nieces.Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mildred Moeller.
