YARMOUTH PORT — Wilbur Reynolds, of Yarmouth Port, passed away peacefully at home on July 4, 2013. He was the beloved husband for 63 years to Barbara Reynolds who predeceased him October, 2012.
Wil, as he was known, was born March 1, 1924, in Providence, Rhode Island. An only child to Arthur and Helen Reynolds, he grew up in Warwick, RI. He attended Bryant College, while managing a funeral home before he was called to active duty in 1947 and served one year in the army where he was responsible for officer trainees in Virginia. Upon being honorably discharged, he married Barbara Reynolds.
Wil and his family moved throughout the Northeast, residing in Norwalk, CT, for over 20 years during his lengthy career with Lever Brothers in executive management positions. Upon leaving Lever, he joined Beacon Photo where he developed and built their premium business. Upon retiring, Wil and Barbara moved to Eastham where he established his own successful premium business.
During his 25 years on Cape Cod, Wil continued his favorite hobbies of sailing and golfing and became an avid cyclist. His positive outlook and zest for life, which included riding his bike 20 miles per day well into his eighties, was an inspiration to many. He often said that the best years of his life were on Cape Cod. In 2007, he and his wife moved to Heatherwood where he enjoyed the lively residents and many close friendships.
Wil is survived by his children, Sharon and her husband Joe Wilcox of Newton, MA; Bill and his wife Joyce of Belcamp, MD; and Nancy of Orleans, MA. Also surviving are his 3 grandchildren, Heather and her husband Patrick Gessleman, Jessica and her husband Rob Bryan and Gregory and his wife Becky along with 2 great grandchildren, Madison and Adam Bryan, all of Maryland.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Hope Hospice for the dedicated and compassionate care they provided to Wil. Additionally, the family wishes to thank all of his dear friends at Heatherwood and throughout the Cape who thoroughly enriched his last years with enthusiasm, excitement and love.
Friends are invited to a gathering to celebrate Wil's life on Saturday, July 13th, at 3 p.m. at Heatherwood, Kings Way, Yarmouth Port. Those wishing to remember Wil may consider a donation to Hope Hospice, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601.
