Description	:	Wilda Mae Young, 93, of Emporia, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at Holiday Resort. She was born Oct. 25, 1915, to George Glen and Mary Elizabeth (Bold) Pierce, at Newton. She was the youngest of four children. Their mother died when she was 3 years old with the flu epidemic in 1918. She married Lloyd Young of Halstead on Oct. 18, 1935. She was born Oct. 25, 1915, to George Glen and Mary Elizabeth (Bold) Pierce, at Newton. She was the youngest of four children. Their mother died when she was 3 years old with the flu epidemic in 1918. She married Lloyd Young of Halstead on Oct. 18, 1935. They farmed for her dad for many years. When her dad bought land, she and Lloyd moved to the new farm from Halstead, Eureka, and then to the Homestead Community in southern Chase County. Wilda was a "hard worker" - it was truly a partnership farming situation. She did about as much of the farming as Lloyd, who worked in town or was custom hay baling. They moved to Council Grove in 1953. In 1962, they bought the John Deere dealership, where she ran the office while her husband ran the business. They sold the business in 1977 and retired. Wilda loved to sew and made most of her clothes. She also made quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. She crocheted each of her 21 great grandchildren baby afghans when they were born. In December, 2007, Wilda sold her house in Council Grove (which she and Lloyd built in 1976) and moved to the Holiday Estates complex in Emporia to be closer to family. Wilda was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, son, Richard Young, daughter-in-law, Opal Young, and son-in-law, Clinton Bentz. She is survived by two daughters, Eleanor Garrett and husband Clifford of Omaha, NE and Elaine Bentz of Emporia; three sons, George Young, and wife Susan of Atkins, IA, James Young and wife Charlene, and David Young and wife Elaine, all of Emporia; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Friday at the First Baptist Church in Council Grove, with Pastor John Bliss officiating. Interment will follow at Sunny Slope Cemetery. Wilda will lie in state Thursday from 12-8 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Flint Hills Chapel. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church.
