Another son, Canton, is also not on the memorial. I am of the opinion that Wiley may have been married and had children before he wed Susan Davis. In order for Jasper (born about 1842) to be Susan Davis's child, she would have been 14 years old when he was born, and Wiley would have been about 31. Wiley and Susan Davis were listed together with no children in 1850, which also makes me question whether Jasper Alford, Mary Emeline Alford, and Emily Jane Alford are children of Susan Davis. Was Wiley married before he married Susan Davis? Or were these children adopted by him and Susan Davis? These children are in the William and Annie Ham home in the 1850 census. They are living with Wiley and Susan Davis in the 1860 census, and Emily is with Susan Traylor Alford and Wiley in the 1870 census. There is also a 6-year gap between children of Wiley Alford and his marriage to Susan Davis. Emily was born in 1850 (only 6 months old at the time of the 1850 census) and the oldest child of Susan Davis (Bynum) was born in 1856.
