Hirtle 1929 Bridgewater Bulletin The community of New Germany was greatly saddened to learn of the death of Wilfred C. Hirtle, who passed away on Friday Morning, June 8th. Althought the deceased who was only twenty-one years of age, had been in poor health for over a year, his many friends could hardly expect his recovery, yet when the end came it was a severe blow to all. He was of a kind and cheerful disposition and was beloved by all who knew him. To friends who had spoken to him a short time before his death, he said that the only regret he had was leaving his mother. It has only been a short time since she saw her husband laid away and as his illness was of the same nature as Wilfred's, it made it very hard for her. Besides his mother he leaves to mourn their loss, one sister, Mrs. S. Jefferson, New Germany; three brothers, Ernest, residing at Ingilsville; Owen at Timmons, Ontario; and Lester, at home. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon, service in the United Church, conducted by Rev. Mr. Hutchinson of Barss Corner, and interment was made at Indian Brook Cemetery beside his father. A large number of friends gathered to pay their last respects and the floral offerings were numerous, which showed how highly he was esteemed. Wilfred Hirtle 1929 Bridgewater Bulletin The death of Wilfred Hirtle occurred at his home here on Friday morning, June 9th., after a lingering illness of tuberculosis. He was an upright young man and leaves a host of friends who extend their deepest sympathy to his widowed mother and family. The funeral services were conducted on Sunday by Rev. Hutchinson of Barss Corner and were largely attended. Floral offerings were beautiful. Interment was made at the Indian Brook Cemetery. With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
