Description	:	Wilfred Francis (Bill) Jacobs, 90, passed away on December 25, 2014 at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 27th at the Hartford United Methodist Church (102 East 2nd Street). Visitation will be from 3-5 on Friday, December 26th at the Hartford Miller Funeral Chapel (600 S Western Avenue) with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00. Bill was born on April 19, 1924 on a farm near Chancellor, the 7th and youngest child of Wilhelm and Pauline (Hoogestraat) Jacobs. His family had immigrated to America in the late 1800s from Ostfriesland, a small region of northern Germany with its own unique language and culture. He was a WWII veteran, serving in an Army Intelligence Unit on Guam and Saipan. He married Leanor Murra in 1943 and together they raised two children. After living a short time in Lennox, they moved to Hartford in 1947 when he was named the manager of the Tuthill Lumber Company. In addition to working in the lumber business, Bill was a rural mail carrier and the owner, along with Leanor of a real estate business and an insurance agency. They were also the founders and operators of the Hartford Manor Apartments. Community service was very important to Bill, and he was on the school, church, and cemetery boards. He and Leanor volunteered many hours at the Senior Citizens Center and were instrumental in bringing the nutrition meals program to Hartford. He will be remembered as a fine craftsman in wood, as a fisherman, and as a storyteller with a phenomenal memory for people and places. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Leanor (1993), his parents, his brothers and sister, and by his beloved son, Lynn, who passed away on December 22, 2008 at age 59. He is survived by his daughter Carole Packard (Jerry), Seattle, his daughter in law Roberta Jacobs, Hartford, his granddaughter Lisa Jacobs (Justin Major), Wheaton, Illinois, his grandson Zachary Jacobs (Stephanie Caparelli) and their daughter, 1 year old Apollonia Jacobs, Chicago.
