Description	:	Wilfred Hoessel, 92, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Friday, May 18, 2012, at the Countryside Home in Madison, Nebraska. The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 21 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Leigh, Nebraska, with Rev. Dr. Marsha Jark-Swain officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military honors by The American Legion, Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 21 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Leigh, Nebraska, with Rev. Dr. Marsha Jark-Swain officiating. Wilfred was born August 16, 1919, to Henry and Cornelia (Wullschleger) Hoessel on the family farm near Leigh, Nebraska. Wilfred was baptized on May 28, 1922, and confirmed on June 4, 1933, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He attended Platte County District 23 School. On January 31, 1942, Wilfred enlisted in the United States Army during WW II serving as an infantryman in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged on September 25, 1945. Wilfred was united in marriage to Lorraine Janssen on August 7, 1946, at Zion Lutheran Church in Platte Center, Nebraska. One daughter was born to this union. Wilfred was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, was church treasurer for 10 years, and a member of the St. Paul's Brotherhood and Men of Mission. He farmed in the Leigh area his entire life until his retirement and moving to Columbus in August of 1985. Wilfred enjoyed his family, fishing, playing cards, and bowling. Wilfred is survived by: Daughter – Judy (Dave) Olmer of Leigh, NE Grandson – Dana (Susan) Olmer of Columbus, NE Granddaughter – Gina (Casey) Vandyke of Leigh, NE Great Grandchildren – Kaylee Olmer, Zoey Vandyke, Kyle Olmer, Riley Vandyke, and Daisy Vandyke Brother – Gordon (Edna) Hoessel of Clarkson, NE Brother – Donald Hoessel of Leigh, NE Sister – Ruth Rickert of Columbus, NE Sister – Gladys Luckey of Columbus, NE Sister – Phyllis (Ed) Hassebrook of Platte Center, NE Sister – Shirley Gersib of Columbus, NE Wilfred was preceded in death by: Parents – Henry and Cornelia Hoessel Wife – Lorraine Hoessel Granddaughter – Jody Olmer Sister-in-law – Delores Hoessel Brothers-in-law – Adolph Rickert, Walt Luckey, and Art Gersib
