The History of Wilfred La Verne Weaver Wilfred La Verne Weaver was born in Mendon, Michigan on March 11, 1922 to Glenn and Edith (Jackson) Weaver. Willie traveled between Michigan and Seattle, Washington many times during his childhood years, attending nineteen different schools. He graduated from Central Kitsap High School, (then called Silverdale High School) in 1940. He served time in the CCC Camp, then completed his four-year machinist apprenticeship in Keyport, Washington. He graduated in 1944 and worked as a painter’s apprentice for a short time. Willie was a World War II Vet. He went into the Navy in August of 1944. He had basic training in Farragut, Idaho, and served in San Diego, California, Chicago, Illinois, and Barber’s Point in Hawaii. After Willie’s discharge, he traveled to Sturgis, Michigan to visit family, where he worked at a machine shop, a milk plant, and a gas station. It was in Sturgis, 1947, that he met Dorthy May London, a friend of Marilyn Hart, his cousin. They married on October 24, 1947. Their first child, Marsha Lee was born in Sturgis (1948), and shortly after their little family moved to Silverdale, where he could find work more easily. He worked for a short time in Keyport and Bangor, then as a machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard until his retirement in 1977. He spent a total of thirty-four years in Federal Service. Other local moves were to Erlands Point, Silverdale, and Navy Yard City, where Bonnie Marie was born (1951). They lived in Kitsap Lake area for fourteen years. Penny Lynn was born there (1953). They then bought Silverdale property from his sister Ruby (and Elmer) Hall, building a home there. Willie enjoyed motorcycling, hiking, fishing, hunting, golfing and playing cards. Willie and Dorthy both attended Chico Alliance Church and had many friends in the area. Upon retirement, they wintered in Yuma, Arizona for 30 years until 2009 when they moved into a smaller home built on the same Silverdale property, and continued to live there until 2015, when they went to the Willow’s Independent Living facility in East Bremerton. Willie was predeceased by his parents Glenn and Edith Weaver; his sisters Rhea (Eddie) Dlugosh and Ruby (Elmer) Hall; and brother-in-law Fred Barnes. Left to mourn Willie’s passing are his beloved wife of 70 years, Dorthy; his children Marsha (Mike) Dynes of North Pole, Alaska, Bonnie (Brian) Enns of Lost River, Saskatchewan, Canada and Penny (Phil) Fisher of Standish, Michigan; his grandchildren Benjamin (Jeanne) Sponsel, Jonathan (Charlene) Sponsel, Nick Dynes, Stephanie (Jimmy) Getachew, Jamie (Jan) Bartos, Heidi Strand, Brandy (Joe) Nashatka, Michael (Julie) Fisher and Jared Fisher; 13 great-grandchildren; and sisters Anna Barnes and Glenna Weaver. Loved by all, Willie will be sadly missed by family and friends. Now we all await the resurrection, when we will be re-united. In the Chico Church flyer given out at Willie's funeral.
