Description	:	Waverly Democrat Nashua, Jan. 2 1928 The flu and other complications which tend to go along with old age, took away the lives of both Mr. and Mrs. Vollbrecht, an aged couple living near Horton, southeast of town, death coming to Mrs. Vollbrecht, on December 28, and her husband on December 31. Both were born in Germany, being married there. The ages of husband and wife were 88 and 77 years respectively. They came to America in 1887, first settling in Clayton County. In 1905 they moved to Polk township, Bremer county, where they have since made their home. They are survived by five of their nine children; Mrs. Anna Witter, Mrs. Emma Sudel and Carl Vollbrecht, of Horton; Mrs. Louise Ihde and Mrs. Huldah Buhmann of Waverly. Mrs. Vollbrecht also leaves a brother, Hy Rubenow of Waverly, and a sister, Mrs. Bertha Ganschow of Germany, while Mr. Vollbrecht leaves two brothers in Germany, and a sister, Mrs. William Michael, of Waverly. Four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren complete the list of living descendents. Mrs. Vollbrecht was buried on Dec. 31., and Mr. Vollbrecht on Jan.2. A. Guetzlaff officiating at the ceremony which were in the Nashua Lutheran church. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery near Nashua. Bremer Co. Independent 1/3/1928 p 1 Many Deaths in County During Past Week "Flu" Epidemic Adds to Death List as New Year Comes In. Many persons died in Bremer county during the past week, with the current influenza epidemic responsible in many cases, and a contributing factor in almost all. Many of the persons who passed away were pioneer settlers of the county and many were past the ages of 70 and 80 years. In or near Waverly, the list of death included the following: Aged Horton Couple Die At Home Of Son Mr. and Mrs. William Vollbrecht, an aged couple living north of Horton, died within three days of each other the past week. They made their home with their son Carl. Mr. Vollbrecht had been ill for a number of years and his wife was not in good health. She was stricken with pneumonia and died Friday of last week. Funeral services were conducted Monday. Mr. Vollbrecht's condition was serious at the time and he died the day his wife was buried. Mr. and Mrs. Vollbrecht had lived on a farm in the vicinity of Horton for twenty years, and of late had resided with the son Carl. Bremer Co Independent 1/3/1928 p 4 Horton The Vollbrecht family living three and one-half miles north of town are having more than their share of sickness. Mrs. Vollbrecht passed away Friday night and on Monday Mr. Vollbrecht passed away of flu and complications. Mr. and Mrs. Vollbrecht were aged people and have been in poor health for several years. We have not learned of the funeral arrangements at this time. Carl Vollbrecht and a sister, Mrs. Witter, are both ill at the Vollbrecht home.
