Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, April 23 at Zion Lutheran Church here. The Rev. Edward Keller, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Richard Haase, Raymond Haase, Robert Haase, Dwane Hintz, John Boyle and Donald Schumacher. Wilhelm Johann Haase, son of Theodore and Wilhelmina Tapfer Haase, was born March 22, 1885 at Paseritz and Reegan, Germany. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Germany. Before coming to America in 1902 he worked for a time on a ship. In this country he worked in coal mines in Pennsylvania and as a gardener at Brooklyn, N.Y. He married Sophie Pries at Brooklyn May 20, 1909. That same year they came west and settled in the Osmond vicinity. Two children were born to them, Theodore of Alexandria, S.D. and Mrs. R.E. (Edna) Klutman of Osmond. They also lived in various places in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Nebraska, retiring at Creighton in 1954. They observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1959 and Sept. 25 of that year Mrs. Haase died at Creighton. For the past several years Mr. Haase had made his home with his son and family. He enjoyed good health until the last few years. He underwent surgery in 1967 and fully recovered. In 1965 he visited his native Germany and relatives there. Surviving are his daughter, son, seven grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and four sisters in Germany. He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother, two sisters and two great granddaughters.
