Immigrated before 1869 to America. ============ Hebron Journal dated 6-1-2016~~~80 Years Ago, 1936: Byron: William Hoops, our departed "Father Hoops," who may be called a patriarch among us, was born before the middle of the former century, on Jan. 21, 1839, at Schwalingen, Hanover, Germany. There he was baptized and after receiving the necessary religious instruction, was confirmed at the age of 14 years. In 1866, at the age of 27, he emigrated to America, finding a home first at Davenport, Iowa, for a few years, and then in Nemaha county (sic), Nebraska. Here he was united in marriage with Anna Bohling. This union was blessed with 12 children. Besides these children, two orphans also found temporary home with his family. Father and Mother Hoops enjoyed a happy married life, and had the privilege of sharing joy and sorrow with each other for 65 years. In 1892, Father Hoops and his large family moved to Thayer county to secure a farm place and it was their home until 1910 when they moved to Byron. Father Hoops did his share of building churches, twice in Nemaha county and twice in this community, namely for St. Peter's, north of Byron, and then in 1907 for the church in Byron.
