Description	:	William Winter was born in Pommery, Germany where he lived until he was about 30 years old, when he came to America with his father, locating in Wisconsin in 1857. He was married 49 years ago in the old country. Before leaving the native land he served in the Germany army, being a cavalryman for three years, and during the civil war in this country he was a union soldier, serving with the seventeenth Wisconis regiment. Read More	William Winter was born in Pommery, Germany where he lived until he was about 30 years old, when he came to America with his father, locating in Wisconsin in 1857. He was married 49 years ago in the old country. Before leaving the native land he served in the Germany army, being a cavalryman for three years, and during the civil war in this country he was a union soldier, serving with the seventeenth Wisconis regiment. In July 1866, with his father, who lived until 12 years ago, he joined the German colony which came to Nebraska, and the two took homesteads which are today among the finest farms in the county, and where he has lived continuously since, passing away this morning on the farm his father homesteaded 43 years ago. Besides his wife, who still survives him Mr. Winter leaves six children to mourn his loss, all of whom have reached the estate of manhood and womanhood. These are William Winter, jr., who lives in Wayne county; Ferdinand, C. F. and Frank, who all live on the old place; H. W. Winter, member of the firm of Winter & Schulz of Norfolk, and county commissioner from this district; Mrs. Herman Schroeder, who lives in Edgewater park.
