Wilhelmina Maria Johnston, longtime resident of Grande Prairie, passed away in Grande Prairie on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the age of 85 years. Wilhelmina was born in s’Hertogenbosch, Holland in 1927. She married as a war bride in 1946 and came to the Peace Country a that time. Wilhelmina Maria Johnston, longtime resident of Grande Prairie, passed away in Grande Prairie on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the age of 85 years. Wilhelmina was born in s’Hertogenbosch, Holland in 1927. She married as a war bride in 1946 and came to the Peace Country a that time. She started out on a homestead south of Calais, near Sturgeon Lake. They moved to Grande Prairie in 1952 with their five children. She worked at Woolworth’s and was a bookkeeper for the family housing business for many years. She owned a business – The Knit and Purl Shop – until 1987, and retired after that. She spent time travelling with husband Clarence until his passing in 1991. She moved to Brodie Manor and later to the Heritage Lodge. She will be sadly missed by her son Clare (Jeanne) Johnston of Grande Prairie, their daughter Sarah (Greg) Green of Mooloolaba, Australia; her son Edward Johnston of Grande Prairie, his sons Jason of Lloydminster, AB, Steven (Joanne) Johnston of Cochrane, AB; her daughter Linda (Philip) Thetrault of Grande Prairie, their children Lisa (Shawn) Murray of Grovedale, AB, Graham (Jeni) Bowen of Grande Prairie, Jamelle (Andy) Kyle of St. Albert, AB; her daughter Barbara (Wayne) Gaboury of Vancouver, BC, their children Michelle (Geoff) Jackson of Edmonton, Wade of Grande Prairie, Nicole (Marcus) Hallowes of Waskatenau, AB; her daughter Rose (Jack Guignion) McGregor of Onoway, AB, her children Ryan Hillaby of Kamloops, BC, Dena (Roger) Gysel of Williams Lake, BC, Colin and Ian McGregor of Edmonton, AB; her 18 great-grandchildren, and also her loving step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives in Canada and Holland. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence Ralph Johnston who passed away in 1991.A Prayer Service will be held on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 7:30pm at Oliver’s Grande Prairie Funeral Chapel (10005 107 Ave). A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 10:00am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grande Prairie (10404 102 St.). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
