The Independent Herald Bertrand, Nebraska Friday, November 3, 1922 Page 3, Column 1 Wilhelmine Elizabeth Johanna Maria Karsten, nee Kempke was born in Macklenburg, Schwerin, May 12, 1836. Was united in marriage to Joachim Karsten and came with her husband from Germany to Otoe County, Nebraska, in the year 1871, where they resided till 1892, and moved from there to Gosper County, where they resided since. Her husband passed away in 1900. To this union were born 8 children: four sons and four daughters, five of whom are living. She made her home with her duaghter, Mrs. John Ziems, for the past four years. She passed away Nov. 2, 1922, at the age of 86 years, 5 months, 21 days. Her illness the last three days was from a stroke of paralysis. The deceased is the mother of Mrs. John Ziems, Mrs. Jacob Schwarz, Mr. Wm. Karsten, mr. John Karsten of Phillipsburg, Kan., and Mr. Louie Karsten of Elm Creek, Neb. She leaves to mourn her loss, 2 daughters and 3 sons, 21 grandchildren and 2 great-grandhcildren, 2 nieces and one nephew, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were helad Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Karl Fenske. Interment was given at the cemtery at Hope Lutheran Church.
