(Margaret) Knudsen, Denver; her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mildred Ulrich, Aberdeen; and her five granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren. At the guest book and welcoming the some 100 guests was Mrs. Mildred Ulrich. A beautifully decorated cake, made by Mrs. Lorraine Sippel, centered the serving table and was served by Mrs. Carl Johnson of Aberdeen and Mrs. Jack Bundy, Apple Valley, Minn. Mrs. Knudsen was at the silver service, Lynn Bundy served punch; and Mrs. Dale Kurth of Claremont, Mrs. Eugene Heinz of Sioux Falls and Mrs. Graig Wenzel of Wessington Springs, assisted with the serving. The colors of yellow and bronze were used in decorations along with many floral bouquets. Congratulatory cards and messages were numerous, including a special message from President and Mrs. Carter. During the afternoon the birthday song was sung, and KABY-TV was on hand to take pictures, and later televised the happy event. Mrs. Ulrich came from Germany in 1902 and lived in Illinois for four years. She was married there and in 1906 came to South Dakota and lived on a farm near Putney until she moved to the Aberdeen Nursing Center. Her father, born in 1809, lived to be 92, and she has a brother, Max Bulian, living in Aberdeen, who is 92. She enjoys good health and continues to be interested in news of the nation and community. When she comments, in her German accent, “I remember when,” you can be reasonably sure she really does remember when! In regards to the celebration, she commented what an exciting day it was for her and thanked all for coming, however, in her jovial manner she did relate, “All I hear is smile, smile, smile!”
