She was born in October 1924, on the family farm in Hoisington, KS, to Carl Fredrick and Willa Mabel Beetz. Read More	Willa Jean Schaeffer Willa Jean Schaeffer, of Othello, passed away at her home on Tuesday, May 13, 2008. She was born in October 1924, on the family farm in Hoisington, KS, to Carl Fredrick and Willa Mabel Beetz. Weighing in at only three pounds, the family doctor advised that if she lived a year, she would have a long life. She joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in Hoisington, KS in 1933. While growing up, she delivered milk, eggs and cream from the family dairy on her bike. She graduated from Hoisington High School in 1942. She attended Colorado Woman's College, where she studied to be a dietitian and graduated in 1944. She attended modeling school in Minneapolis, MN. She married Harold Schaeffer in 1950, and they farmed on the homestead for many years. They later moved to Wall, SD and then Missoula, MT. She was a housewife and mother. While living in Missoula, MT, she sold Sarah Coventry Jewelry, making several lifelong friends. Upon moving to Othello in 1965, she drove truck during potato harvest, finally working for P.J. Taggares Co. as the first woman truck driver the company had ever had. When the Cimarron opened in the early 70's, Willa worked as a waitress there for several years. She later worked as a waitress at the Porterhouse in Othello and then at Mar Don Restaurant. She would go out and help her husband at Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens once in a while. Willa has always been a hard worker and enjoyed life, as well as her family. She was an avid reader of westerns. Willa was diagnosed with terminal cancer three years ago. Most of the last three years, she was still active visiting with family and friends, reading and doing word searches. She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Harold Schaefer of Othello; children, Carla (Bob) Hampton of Othello, James (Robin) Schaeffer of Wenatchee and Ivan (Angie) Schaeffer of Richland; eight grandchildren, Bobby, Blake (Casie) and Bekki Hampton, Brittany and Stephen Schaeffer and Tyler, Rylie and Kian Schaeffer; two step-grandchildren, Veronica Long and Erica Hampton; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ivan Beetz. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Nazarene Church, 905 E. Ash, Othello, WA, on Saturday, May 17, 2008, with a Graveside Service at the Hoisington City Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Central Basin Home Health and Hospice, 311 W. 3rd Ave., Moses Lake, WA 98837. Scharbach's Columbia Funeral Chapel, 509-787-2223, in Quincy, is assisting the family with arrangements.
