Description	:	Willard Augustine "Scott" Hetherington, eldest son of Arthur Scott and Augusta (Scohy) Hetherington, was born November 17, 1919 at Bussey, Iowa and died August 20, 1988 at Research Belton Hospital, Belton, Missouri. His early boyhood and youth were spent in Pershing, Iowa, which was a coal mining community. Read More	Willard Augustine "Scott" Hetherington, eldest son of Arthur Scott and Augusta (Scohy) Hetherington, was born November 17, 1919 at Bussey, Iowa and died August 20, 1988 at Research Belton Hospital, Belton, Missouri. His early boyhood and youth were spent in Pershing, Iowa, which was a coal mining community. Even though these were demanding years on his time he was able to graduate from high school at Attica, Iowa in 1937. January 25, 1942 Scott was married at Burlington, Iowa to Mara Lea Scott. To Scott and Mara Lea were born three children: John Scott, Joy Fran, and James Craig. After his tour of duty in the U.S. Navy following World War II, Scott and Mara Lea moved to Lamoni. He was associated with his father-in-law, Rothmer, and brother-in-law, Ed, in the Coffee Shoppe from 1945 to 1960. From 1972 to 1981, he and his family owned and operated the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Lamoni. The intervening years were spent in various locations in the food service industry. He always valued the old friends and the many new friends with whom he shared his hospitality. He was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1950. His mother-in-law, Ruth, was very influential in this decision. During the ten years spent in Florida, church services were held in his home, gradually enlarging to the Gainesville and Ocala congregations. It was pleasing to him to have his children and grandchildren all be able to share his religious convictions. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, youngest brother, Lorance and sister, Lillian. He also shared in the grief of parting with each of Mara Lea's family members. He is survived by his wife, Mara Lea, of Grandview, Missouri; sons John and wife Patricia of Rogersville, Missouri, James and wife Janelle of Independence, Missouri; daughter Joy Pearson and husband Lamar of Grandview, Missouri; 10 grandchildren: Scott, Dyane, Kara, and Tara Hetherington; Hether, Heidi, and Haley Pearson; David, Kristanne, and Laura Hetherington; brother Jess and wife Jan of Jamestown, North Dakota; sisters, Martha Nichols, Clara McDonald and husband Raymond of Knoxville, Iowa; and sisters-in-law, Doris Scott of Lamoni, Iowa, and LaVon Hetherington of Attica, Iowa; many nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services, under the direction of the Slade and Duerr Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni, were held August 23, 1988 from the Lamoni R.L.D.S. Church. Officiating were Clarence Bohall and Rigby Leighton. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa. published in The Lamoni Chronicle 8-25-88
