Description	:	Willard Hodges, 82 of Lake Preston died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, at his home in Lake Preston after a lingering illness. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lake Preston United Church of Christ in Lake Preston with the Rev. Teresa Whetsel officiating. Burial was in the Erwin Cemetery at Erwin. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lake Preston United Church of Christ in Lake Preston with the Rev. Teresa Whetsel officiating. Burial was in the Erwin Cemetery at Erwin. Visitation was one hour before services in the church on Tuesday. Willard Leroy Hodges was born April 19, 1933, at the family farm near Erwin to Harry and Stella (Gilbertson) Hodges. He attended school at Erwin and graduated from Erwin High School in 1951. He attended the University of South Dakota and graduated in 1955 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. After graduating he was commissioned into the U.S. Army as a second lieutenant. He attended officer training at Fort Benning, Ga., before serving 18 months in Korea as an infantry platoon leader and 8th Army inspection team where he had the opportunity to travel to Japan, Philippines, Thailand, India, Hong Kong and Monaco. He married Carol Veitch in December 1955 and they had one son, Mark David Hodges. He farmed north of Lake Preston until moving to California, where he worked for Hartford Insurance. He returned to South Dakota and worked for Frank Virchow. He married Lorraine Lundquist, Feb. 14, 2003. They enjoyed traveling to many parts of the country, including some winters in Texas. Willard enjoyed attending local school events, golfing, dancing and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; a son, Mark of Lake Preston; a sister, Donna (Perry) Williams of Omaha, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Joyce Hodges of Brookings; six nephews, six step-children and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard and a nephew, Brett. Johnson-Henry Funeral Chapel in Lake Preston was in charge of arrangements.
