He was a retired owner of Will Free Insurance Agency and Real Estate Company, a member of First Baptist Church of Greer and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, chairman of the Greer Housing Authority, past President of Greer Lion's Club, past President of the Greer Chamber of Commerce, Past Chairman of Greenville County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission, Past Chairman of Greenville County Health Department, past Director and Treasurer of Greer Jaycee's, past Master of Irving Southworth Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and Hejaz Shrine Temple. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a graduate of Wofford College. Also surviving in addition to his wife are his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy Jo and Jim Brown of Spartanburg; six nieces and nephews; and a dear friend and confidant, Jeff Howell. He was predeceased by a brother and a sister, Tommy Free and Joyce Thompson. Graveside services were held Friday, June 9, 2000 at 3:00 p.m. at Wood Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. James Crocker and the Rev. Dan Ray, with visitation following graveside services. Honorary escort was the members of the Greer High Classmates of 1949, the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and members of the Greer Lion's Club.
