Description	:	Bill, like all his siblings, was born in Handover MA. In the fall of 1917 the family moved to Salem NH where they remained. The Brown boys and their father were involved in many town projects very soon after their arrival. In 1923 father Edwin and two sons Gus and Bill opened "E. L. Brown & Sons", a small grocery/general store in the first floor of the Rockingham Hotel in Salem Depot. The business thrived until a fire shut its doors in 1925. The Brown boys and their father were involved in many town projects very soon after their arrival. In 1923 father Edwin and two sons Gus and Bill opened "E. L. Brown & Sons", a small grocery/general store in the first floor of the Rockingham Hotel in Salem Depot. The business thrived until a fire shut its doors in 1925. But they soon reopened in a building two doors away. It was about this time Bill married Hazel Marshall in July 1925, who became his lifelong partner. Edwin died in 1931 so Gus and Bill changed the name of their store to "Brown Bros.", with continued success. By the early to mid 1940's, Bill had purchased his own building in Salem Center, the old Ewins Store building, and named it "Bill's Market", which was very popular for many years. Later the Salem Center Post Office was located within its walls and his wife Hazel was the Postmistress. He finally sold the property in the late 1970's. When his wife Hazel died in 1981, Bill's health began to fail and he died two years later. Bill and Hazel raised three daughters, all of whom were employed innthe education field.
