Ent, pioneer resident of this community and Pulaski County's oldest citizen, passed quietly to his reward last Saturday morning, December 29th at about 7:00 a.m. , at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ercel Ent, here in Francesville. Although his health had been slowly failing for the last several years, Mr. Ent had apparently been feeling as well as usual, and had arisen Saturday morning and nearly finished dressing when death, apparently in the nature of a heart attack struck, and he collapsed on the floor. This esteemed and venerable citizen, a resident of the state for the past 93 years, had reached the ripe age of more than 97 years. Mr. Ent was born October 31, 1849 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and came to Indiana with his parents, the late Lambert and Sarah (Fischel) Ent, in the years 1853. His father was a shoemaker, going through the country making shore for families, while his sons, William and Thomas did the farming. In addition to farming William Ent, as a young man, assisted in operating a steamboat that towed grain boats on Lakes Erie and Huron from Toledo, Ohio to New York City. Many time he has recalled that after settling in Indiana, many wild geese, ducks, turkeys and prairie chickens were to be found, and many deer often came up to the door of homes. Mr. Ent married Clara Belle Wood, March 21, 1880. Mrs. Ent preceded him in death on March 19, 1937. Seven children were born to them--one daughter, Ethel May, having passed away at the age of four years. Surviving are six sons; James of Dallas, Texas; Harry of Francesville; George of Toledo, Ohio; Charles and Ercel of Francesville, and Howard of Toledo, Ohio. He also leaves nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. When Mr. Ent first moved to Francesville, he and his wife purchased and operated the old (blurred) located in the building now occupied by the Howat Seed Corn plant. He was a gardener until reaching the age of 90. Mr. Ent was a member of the Church of God. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon, December 31st at two o'clock, at the Querry funeral home, Rev. Alvin Hall of Buffalo in charge.
