He was born in Willis, Virginia on December 23, 1939 to the late William Harmon Dickerson and Ivra Cox Dickerson. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Robinson Dickerson of Galax; sons and daughter-in-law, Christopher Dickerson of the home, Alan Dickerson, Billy and Teresa Dickerson, all of Galax; daughter and son-in-law, Caroline Dickerson Hurst and Scott Hurst of Biloxi, Mississippi; two grandchildren, Meredith and Grace Dickerson. He was born in Willis, Virginia on December 23, 1939 to the late William Harmon Dickerson and Ivra Cox Dickerson. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Robinson Dickerson of Galax; sons and daughter-in-law, Christopher Dickerson of the home, Alan Dickerson, Billy and Teresa Dickerson, all of Galax; daughter and son-in-law, Caroline Dickerson Hurst and Scott Hurst of Biloxi, Mississippi; two grandchildren, Meredith and Grace Dickerson. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12, at the First Baptist Church in Galax with Rev. David Slayton presiding. Interment in Felts Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from seven until nine p.m. at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, the Galax Fire Department, or the charity of the donor's choice. Mr. Dickerson was an active member of the community, serving as Executive Vice-President of Guardian-Consolidated in Galax, Virginia, Eastern Sales Manager for Musser Lumber Sales, Inc. of Rural Retreat, Virginia, member of the Galax City Town Council, member of the Galax Education Foundation, former member of the Carroll-Galax-Grayson Chamber of Commerce and former member of the Mount Rogers Planning Commission. A 1962 graduate of VPI&SU with a degree in Agriculture and a lifelong interest in farming. He was a dedicated family man, husband and father with a profound passion for life, work and family who was willing and eager to help all those he came into contact with and a strong desire to serve his community.
