He had been to the pasture at the north edge of town to milk the family cow, and had just reached the back door of the ……. when he was stricken. He was helped into the house, but passed away in a short time. The funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock and a brief but impressive ceremony at the Christian church was preached by Rev. after which remains were escorted to St. Clair cemetery by the members of the local Sons of Veterans Camp, old veteran comrades and sympathetic friends. At the cemetery the ceremonies were conducted by the Sons of Veterans and sader their impressive riteualistic observance the remains were lowered into the new made grave, three salutes were fired, taps called by the bugler and under the draped stars and stripes of the star spangled banner another old veteran was consigned to the last resting place to await the Seal roll call from the great and mighty general from on high. William Albert Brown was born in Clermont county, Ohio on August 12, 1812. On the 30th day of December 1863 enlisted in the 17th Illinois cavalry, and received his honorable discharge 15 December 1823. He was married to Miss Casendene Brower on September 23, 1867, and to this union there were born five children, three girls and two boys. The oldest boy William died at the age of 9 years. The remaining four are Frank Brown, Mrs. Jessie Gries, Mrs. Lyda Gries and Miss Florence Brown, she with the mother deeply mourns the death of a loving father and husband. The deceased several years ago purchased a residence and small piece of ground just north of town, where he resided with his wife and daughter Florence, , until the first of the present year where the family moved to town, and have cond...………..ed a restes…….. Mr. Brown was a very quiet but genial old gentleman and enjoyed the respect of all who knew him, and his sudden departure from this life is universally regreted, and the charming family have the …ing sympathy of the entire community.
