Read More	The Athens News Obit: William Albert Harmon William Albert Harmon passed away Monday, February 22, 2010 at his son's home in Athens. Born in Judsonia, Arkansas on June 17, 1915, he was the son of the late Alfred Roscoe and Mae Foster Harmon and the brother of the late L. Foster Harmon. He graduated in 1936 from Ohio University and was employed by the University in the Business Office, advancing to the position of Comptroller. In 1939, he received his M.B.A. from Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration, and, six year later, he organized and managed the start-up of production of Vanadium Tool Company, an Athens-based company, manufacturing forged hand tools. He remained as Chief Officer and President of Vanadium until he sold the business in 1969. In 1945, he led a group of community businessmen in the first fund drive for the Ohio University Fund, an important source of financing for the University even today. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Athens and served as Chairman of the Trustees and was on the Finance Commission. A former member of the Athens County Planning Commission, Mr. Harmon was personally involved in planning the by-pass route around Athens in the early 1970's. He had been a member of the Athens Rotary Club since 1949, having served as its President in 1958. He was a life member of Sheltering Arms Hospital Foundation, which operates O'Bleness Memorial Hospital and was a nine-year member of the Governing Board, serving as Chairman for part of that time. He was also a life-member of Athens County Historical Society and Museum. He was a member of the Ohio Forestry Association, and, during his lifetime, he had planted an estimated 25,000 seedlings on his own property, a 130-acre tract of forest adjacent to the town of Athens. Mr. Harmon was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Dorr Halbirt Harmon, of Athens. He is survived by their son, William (Judith) Harmon, Jr. of Athens, and three grandchildren: Katherine Harmon-Etters of Hudson, Ohio, John (Kaneta) Harmon of San Diego, California, and Sarah (Paul) Hina of Athens; and two great grandchildren, Caroline and Alexander. Friends are invited to visitation Friday 2-4 and 7-9PM at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens. A private family graveside service will be held at West Union St. Cemetery, Saturday 10:30AM, with Rev.
