Mr. Mindemann had been ailing for the past year, but for the past four or five weeks his condition has been more serious. He left Wednesday morning by ambulance for Iowa City to enter the University Hospital but passed away when about half way there, at 12:35 p.m. He was being accompanied to Iowa City by his brother, Henry Mindemann of near Boone, his son, John of this city, and his step-daughter, Mrs. Paul Haase of 1318 Tama Street. Mr. Mindemann made his home in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Olin Lykell, who resides at 1543 Fifth Street, and his son, John, also resided in the home of Mrs. Lykell. The deceased's wife preceded him in death about ten years ago and he is survived by a son, John, step-daughter, Mrs. Haase, and two daughters in Alhambra, Calif. The funeral arrangements have not as yet been completed, but will be announced later. Mr. Mindemann was a retired farmer and also for a time worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. ******************************** Boone News Republican, Monday, March 19, 1934 Wm. Mindemann Funeral Service at Home, Church Late resident was native of Illinois The Rev. Erbe in charge of rites He came when but four years of age to Harrison Township with his parents, formerly worked for C. & N.W. Friends and neighbors gathered at the home of the late William Mindemann at 1545 Fifth Street, Friday, March 16, at 1 p.m. where brief services were conducted over the remains in charge of Rev. Otto Erbe, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, who offered prayer and read the ritual of the church. The remains were taken from here to St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Mackey where the family had worshipped in days gone by. The services there began at 1:45 p.m. with former neighbors and friends in attendance. Congregational singings before and after the sermon was in charge of Prof. Julius Koch, teacher of the parish school. Mrs. J. Koch sang: "Lass Mich Gehen". Pastor Erbe based his remarks on John 8, 51: "Verily, verily I say unto you, if any man will keep my saying he shall never see death." The casket was born to the grave by Messers John Tietjen, Louis Blaess, John Nell, Louis Leininger, Harry Leavens and Guy Littrell. The many floral tributes were in charge of Mesdames Harry Leavens, L.W. Whittlesly and Guy Littrell. Interment was made in the church cemetery of St. Paul's. Born in Illinois William Albert Henry Mindemann, child of Henry Mindemann and Sophia Gebert was born in Cook County, Illinois, October 24, 1872. When four years of age his parents located on a farm in Harrison Township, Boone County, Iowa, here he received his secular and religious training, joining St. Paul's Lutheran by the rite of confirmation at the usual age. The days of his young manhood were spent in labor on the farm of his father. He was united in marriage with Caroline Eckstein of Boone, December 15, 1897, and after his father's death, continued on the Mindemann homestead until the year 1924 when he established a residence in Boone where he was employed for a time by the Northwestern Railroad. Children Survive His wife preceded him in death May 24, 1924. He is survived by four children, Mrs. Ben Tietjen of California; John Mindemann of Boone; Mrs. Louise Littrell of Boone; Mrs. Palmer Kail of Albambra, Calif.; one step-daughter, Mrs. Paul Haase of Boone; seven grandchildren; a brother, Henry Mindemann of Mackey and a sister Mrs. Minnie Siemsen of Stratford, Iowa. William Mindemann boasted a robust body the greater part of his life until his health began failing a year ago. The ravages of disease terminated his health on Wednesday of this week while he was on a journey to Iowa City where medical treatment was to be given. His unexpected death brought grief and sorrow to his family and the sympathy of friends is extended the family in their bereavement. While in Boone he attended the services of the Trinity Lutheran Church and in his infirmity and sickness received the comfort of God's word which aided him fearlessly to meet the last summons. Aged 61 years, 4 months and 20 days he fell asleep to rest from his labors and to enter eternal rest.
