He was born on the family farm in Dallas County on December, 2, 1930 to Lawrence & Mildred (Shanks) Greif. He attended and graduated from Granger High School. He was born on the family farm in Dallas County on December, 2, 1930 to Lawrence & Mildred (Shanks) Greif. He attended and graduated from Granger High School. He is a US Vet and served in the Army during the Korean war and was stationed in Germany. June 12th 1954 Bill was united in marriage to Doris Carlson at the St Peter Lutheran Church in Grimes. Together they raised their 4 children Randy, Sandy, Darla and Krista, in their family home in Granger . Bill was very loyal to his community and served on the city council as well as holding the position of Mayor of Granger. He worked at Firestone Tire for 37 years before retiring . Some of Bill's hobbies were camping, working in his garage on cars, woodworking,family events and visiting with people in general. Bill is survived by his children Randy (Deb) Greif of Lake City Florida, Sandy (Mark) Tomlinson of Des Moines, Iowa and Krista (Randy ) Embrey of Granger, Iowa. Grandchildren Jake, Josh, Alex, Kendra, Seth, Jeremy, Shaunelle, Ashley, Michelle, Travis . 16 great grandchildren, Brother Richard, Sisters Evelyn , Betty, Nancy. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence & Mildred. His wife Doris, daughter Darla, brothers Ralph, Lawrence Jr, Albert Lee, Jimmy, Kenneth, sisters Ruby, Katherine. The most memorable thing about Wild Bill is that he loved to talk to people. You always had to listen to how proud he was of his family then followed up with a good joke or a spark of sarcasm. A sense of humor was a big part of who Bill was. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Tuesday January 12, 2016 at the Brandt Funeral home in Dallas Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Wednesday January 13, 2016 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Grimes, with burial to follow at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes Obituary & photo published by Des Moines Register on Jan. 10, 2016
