On Wednesday at twelve noon, Wm Eaton who lived 2 miles northeast of Jackson Hill met his death on the reservoir there. Mr Eaton had come down to Jackson Hill that morning to help move house. He quit his work for noon hour, and had driven past the house of his son-in-law, Willis Sims, which is located at the top of the hill that leads down to the reservoir, telling his daughter he would water the horses and come directly back for his dinner. The reservoir is a public wateringplace it being the custome of the people to drive into the pond which at places was eight to ten feet deep. A few minustes after Mr Eaton left the house, Mr Sims who was at home at the time, heard his father-in-law call for help. He and his wife and his wife's sister rushed down to the reservoir and saw that Mr Eaton was astride of one of the horses which was plunging down in the water, one of them being a strange horse belonging to his son=in=law. As his children came within speaking distrance he turned his pale frightened face and called out "can't you help me". Mr Sims told him to cling the horses and they would get him out. Just as he spoke the strange horse plunged at the one he was on and knocked Mr Eaton down between their feet. The marks on his head show that he might have been killed by the horses which continued to plunge until they finally succeeded in getting loose. One was so exhausted they pulled it to shore with ropes, and the other being so frightened swam across the reservoir and back and forth three times before they caught it. The body was not recovered until three o'clock. Mr Eaton was the eldest son of Charles Eaton who died three years ago being a brother of Mr Wes Eaton who lives west of town. Mr James Eaton who lives on Cross St, and an Uncle of Charles Hunt. Mr Eaton was sixty-three years old have been born Sept 1840. Mr Eaton had for years lived in the neighborhood of Jackson Hill, owning a farm there. He was well known as an honest upright christian man beloved by his neighbors. He leaves behind a wife and seven children, all but one of whom ar grown. Mr Eaton had worked hard all his life caring for a large family and had reached the point where he could rest feeling assured he had provided enought for himself and his wife in their old age. But as Mr Eaton told hia wife the day before he died when she had reminded him about helping to move the house, telling hime he might get hurt, he was ready to go. The funeral services were held at M.E.Church this morning the body afterward being interred in Center Ridge cemetery.
