Description	:	William August “Bill” Dittmer, 92, of Wever, Iowa passed away at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. Born September 9, 1923 at Quincy, Illinois the son of August and Barbara (Funke) Dittmer. On May 25, 1957 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fort Madison he married Marie Schroeder. Survivors include his wife Marie. Three daughters: Louise Dittmer of Wever, Iowa, Linda (David) Dingman of Fort Madison, Iowa and Karen Dittmer of Burlington, Iowa. Survivors include his wife Marie. Three daughters: Louise Dittmer of Wever, Iowa, Linda (David) Dingman of Fort Madison, Iowa and Karen Dittmer of Burlington, Iowa. Two grandchildren: Lyndsey (Brian) Schmitz of West Point, Iowa and Alan Markey of Ankeny, Iowa. One great-grandson Nolan Schmitz He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Jack Dittmer. Bill was a member of Holy Family Parish in Fort Madison. He was a 1939 graduate of Quincy College Academy. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in World War II from 1942-1946 as a Technician in the 625th Engineer Light Equipment Co. in the European, African, Middle East and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. In October of 2011 he made an Honor Flight to the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. Bill retired from Modern Welding in Burlington as a purchasing agent in 1984. He enjoyed working in the yard, his four wheeler, woodworking and cars. Friends may call and meet with the family from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Madison. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday July 23, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Mark P. Spring as Celebrant. Burial with full military rites will be in Gethsemane Cemetery in Fort Madison. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the Great River Honor Flight. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.schmitzfuneralhomes.com. The Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point is assisting the family with the arrangements.
