Johnson was born March 24, 1869 in Sweden, and died at his home fourteen miles south of Brady, Friday, October 27, 1933, as a result of a collision with a train at the highway crossing in Brady on Oct. 16th, when his younges son Elmer was instantly killed. he was 64 years, 7 months and three days old. Mr. Johnson emigrated to the United States with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. John Carlson, and settled near Pierre, S. D., where he lived for about nine years. At the age of nineteen he came to Nebraska and settled near Brady, and has lived adjacent to Brady now 45 years. On Jan. 25, 1892 he was united in marriage to Miss Selma Nelson of Brady, Nebr. To this union were born nine children; Oliver, Melvin, Reuben, Wilbert, Mrs. Florence Mercer, Mrs. Ellen Peterson, Miss Stella, all living adjacent to Brady; and two who have preceded their father in death, Mrs. Mable Nelson who died at the age of 21, and Elmer who died just recently at the age of 17. Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his death, two brothers, Albert Johnson and Ed. Johnson, both of Brady; two sisteres, Mrs. Chas. Ericson of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Joe Kealer of Sidney, Nebr.; two uncles, Alfred Carlson of Brady, and another uncle in Sweden; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. From boyhood he has always been a farmer. He was a good husband, father and neighbor. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Brady, Sunday, Oct. 29, 1933, in charge of the Pastor, Rev. S. T. Geiger. The pallbearers were J. F. Johnson, Chris Peterson, Wm. Wafer, Axel Carlson, and Art Peterson. Mr. E. A. Nelson, undertaker had charge of the body. Interment was made in Gaslin Cemetery.
