The Rev. David Hagstrom officiated at the services. William Topping, 85, of Anamosa died early Sept 8 at his residence following a sudden illness. William Topping was born Sept 4, 1902 at Hopkinton. He was the son of Robert and Estella Thomas Topping. He received his education in the Hopkinton schools and later farmed near Hopkinton. He married Elizabeth Schoon on Oct 30, 1928 at Hopkinton. The couple farmed near Amber until 1945. It was then that he went to work at Allis Chalmers in Cedar Rapids. He was an employee there for 23 years. He retired in 1968. Survivors include two sons, Edwin of Hiawatha and Rhinehart of Anamosa, five daughters, Bionda Boots of Monticello, Erna Young of Lebanon, MO., Bessie Hartwig of Cedar Rapids, Junie Ulferts, Anamosa; Zalda Sounders of Los Angeles, Calif., 30 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Gene of Cedar Rapids and George of Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one grandson, one great-granddaughter, two brothers and four sisters. Casket bearers were John Boots, Steve Hartwig, Bill Topping, Corey Ulferts, Randy Jordan and Rick Ulferts. Goettsch Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
