A. Meriweather Born Here in 1864 William Meriweather, for many years a resident in and near Decatur, died at 4:30 o'clock Friday morning at his home near Oswego, Kan., according to a telegram received by his brother, J. A. Meriweather. Death came suddenly. The cause of death was not given in the telegram. Only last week, Mr. Meriweather had received a letter from him in which he commented upon how well he was feeling. Hardly had he finished answering that letter than he received the wire announcing his brother's death. Born Here William Meriweather was born in Decatur in 1864, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Handy Meriweather. The next year, he moved with the family to a farm in Long Creek, which was his home until1910. In that year, he moved to Oswego, near where he has been living since. He had many friends in Decatur. He was a boon companion of the Muellers, J. P. Gorin and others who were interested in hunting and fishing. For years he managed the Meriweather farm, in Long Creek, leaving it in 1910 to move to Kansas, where he bought a farm. He leaves one brother, a wife and five children. No word concerning funeral arrangements has been received here. ————— Decatur Herald (Decatur, Illinois), 25 November 1927, Friday Brother Decatur Banker is Dead ——— William G. Meriweather was Former Resident of Macon County William G. Meriweather, brother of J. A. Meriweather of Decatur, died in his home near Oswego, Kan., Friday morning at 4:30. He was 63 years old. In the telegram received by his brother here, the cause of death was not made known. Only three or four days ago, in a letter, Mr. Meriweather remarked that he was enjoying unusually good health. Mr. Meriweather was born in Macon county, and lived as a farmer in Long Creek township until 18 years ago. He then moved his family to Oswego, where he had since been engaged in farming.
