Description	:	William "Bill" Sachau, 85, of rural Allen passed away Thursday, June 19, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital. Services was 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jackson, Neb., with the Rev. Paul Albenesius officiating. Burial was in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Emerson, Neb., with military rites conducted by American Legion Harty-McNally Post 175 of Jackson. Bill was born Jan. 26, 1923, in rural Anthon, Iowa, the son of Chris and Elizabeth (Mahler) Sachau. He attended school in rural Correctionville and Anthon, Iowa. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army from January 1943 and was honorably discharged in March 1946. He was in the European Theater and the Battle of the Bulge. Bill received a Victory Medal and a Purple Heart. After the service, he farmed in Iowa. Bill married Teresa Flammang on Jan. 19, 1949, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson. The couple farmed south of Emerson for two years, then moved east of Allen and farmed for two years. In 1953, they moved to the farm they presently own and operate. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jackson, American Legion Harty-McNally Post 175 in Jackson and Martinsburg Vernon Gasser VFW Post 5435. Bill enjoyed playing cards, visiting with family and friends and raising his Angus cattle. Survivors include his wife, Teresa of Allen; two daughters, Connie and her husband, Gary Miller of Springfield, S.D., and Cathy Tellinghusen of Martinsburg, Neb.; two sons, Bill and Micky Sachau of Allen, and Kent and his wife, Tina Sachau of Martinsburg; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four nieces; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Julius, Rudolph, John, Earl and infant, Alfred Sachau; three sisters, Anna Joy, Blanche Herron and Emily Dyer; two sons-in-law, Ronald Starwalt and LeRoy Tellinghusen; a niece; and two nephews.
