Pounds and Lydia Ashcraft, and his grandparents were Revolutionary War Veteran Samuel Pounds and Sarah Rorie of Anson County, North Carolina. He was a blacksmith and farmer. He first married Martha C. Moore October 12, 1854 in Union County. They had one child, Mary Pounds in 1855.
