Description	:	Boone County Democrat November 23, 1906 William Benson, a highly esteemed pioneer resident of Boone, passed away at his home, 203 west fifth St., at 6:00 o'clock Saturday morning November 16th after an illness of nearly three years with a complication of aliments due largely to old age. Read More	Boone County Democrat November 23, 1906 William Benson, a highly esteemed pioneer resident of Boone, passed away at his home, 203 west fifth St., at 6:00 o'clock Saturday morning November 16th after an illness of nearly three years with a complication of aliments due largely to old age. Deceased was born in Paisley, Scotland, February 10, 1838 and was in his 69th year at the time of his death. He grew to manhood in his native land and was there united in marriage to Miss Margaret Clark October 27, 1860. They came to America in 1866 and in 1878 came to Boone county and settled on a farm just west of Boonsboro. For many years he was prominently identified with farming, brick making and mining. Seven years ago he gave up active work and removed to Boone and erected a handsome home here where he has lived a quiet retirement since his wife died January 5, 1905, and since then his health has declined rapidly. He leaves nine children, Mrs. Margaret Crowe, Mrs. Anna Heaps, peter, Will, James and Robert of Boone, Mrs. Jean Frazier of Marshalltown. Mrs. Robena Olson of Marcy township and Mrs. Sadie Beers of Woodward, and an innumerable host of friends to mourn his death. The funeral services were held from the Marion St M.E. Church at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. G. F. Cannom and attended by a large concourse of sorrowing friends, burial in East Linwood beside the remains of his wife.
