Simpson, one of Bradford Township's pioneer citizens, passed away Friday morning at Mercy Hospital, Waverly, where he had been taken the previous day for an operation with the vain hope that surgery might prolong his life. Simpson, one of Bradford Township's pioneer citizens, passed away Friday morning at Mercy Hospital, Waverly, where he had been taken the previous day for an operation with the vain hope that surgery might prolong his life. Mr. Simpson was taken seriously ill abut six weeks ago, and while hopes for his recovery were high fir a time, he continued to grow weaker, and last week his condition became so much worse that an operation was considered the only hope for saving his life, and he was removed to the hospital, but the operation was unavailing, and he passed away about 10 o'clock Friday morning. William B. Simpson was born near Montreal, Canada, April 24, 1954, and at the time of his death was 65 years and 6 months old. He was the oldest of five children born to Wm and Elizabeth Simpson. Anna M. (his sister) died 21 years ago in Nebraska. The remaining children (siblings) are James L., of Waterloo; David E. of Ames; and Mrs. E. Bussey of Waterloo. The Simpson family moved from Canada to Bradford, Iowa in 1856, when that town was nearly in its prime, and William was but two years old. All the rest of his life had been spent in this vicinity, with the exception of winters spent in California, 16 years ago and 9 years ago. For twenty years deceased resided on his farm one mile north of Bradford. He was united in marriage to Urania Parks December 28, 1875, and two children were born into the home. Edward E. and Mrs. Gertrude Neal of Powersville. Two grandchildren, William E. and Marjory Neal also survive. The mother died June 5, 1899. Mr. Simpson was again united in marriage to Miss Susie Blinn, Oct. 10, 1900, who survives him. About eight years ago deceased moved from the farm to a home in Greenwood, and about one year ago moved to their present home in Nashua, where death overtook him. He has been a member of the M. E. Church for twenty-five years and for a long period of time was a member of the official board of the church. He was always a faithful member of the church, having its success very near his heart and always being one of the first to encourage the pastor and help him. He will be missed by a host of friends and mourned by them all, for he was dearly loved and respected. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Sunday at 3:30 p.m., Rev. H. D. Green officiating, and interment was in Greenwood Cemetery.
