Burial will be in the Ashley City Cemetery. He died Monday, March 26, 2007 at Bradley Bay Health Center, Bay Village, Ohio. William Baumann, son of Karl and Barbara (Hofert) Baumann was born June 26, 1906 at Ashley. He attended country school at Albrights Valley School District. He helped on his parent's farm northwest of Ashley. In 1927, he began farming 320 acres, one mile north of his parent's farm. He was united in marriage to Alma M. Meidinger on October 11, 1931 at Ashley. They made their home on his farm 10 miles northeast of Ashley. He sold cemetery monuments for a number of years to help supplement their income. In 1933, he began working for the United States Department of Agriculture as a farm field supervisor and later served as Community Committeeman. He was elected to the McIntosh County Committee in 1945 and served as Chairman for many years. In 1954, he became a County Federal Crop Insurance Agent, doing this for 17 years. During all these years, he also had been farming, increasing his acreage to 624 acres. He and his wife enjoyed traveling in the United States, Canada and Europe. He was a member of Ashley Baptist Church and a former member of First Baptist Church in Ashley. At the First Baptist Church, he served as a Deacon and President of the Men's Brotherhood and sang in the choir. Bill had been on the Boards of the McIntosh County Hospital, Opportunities, Inc. of Ashley and the McIntosh County Heritage Center. He also served as the President of Ashley Senior Citizens. His wife, Alma, died December 15, 2006. Survivors include two daughters, Maxine (Jim) Gruebele of Roseville, California and Judith (Ralph) Rothfusz of Bay Village, Ohio, one daughter-in-law, Mayvis Baumann of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, two sisters-in-law, Rachel Meidinger of Pierre, SD and Rose Meidinger of Sacramento, California, nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. His parents, wife, one son, Dwight, seven sisters and six brothers preceded him in death. Casketbearers will be his grandchildren, Randall Gruebele, David Gruebele, Peter Gruebele, Eric Rothfusz, Rebecca Rothfusz, Joel Rothfusz, Stephen Baumann, Susan Wittrock and Sandra Sullivan. Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley has been entrusted with arrangements.
